Interesting Facts: The Florida Affiliate was originally organized as the Southeastern Santa Gertrudis Association, before SGBI was established. Once SGBI was established the Southeastern Association was re-chartered as the Florida Affiliate. J Arthur Pancoast, herd # 16 and CC Peters, herd # 14 were SGBI members that started the Florida Affiliate. Florida had the first Santa Gertrudis cattle sale that was east of the Mississippi River that was not in Texas. For many years Florida ran second to Texas in Santa Gertrudis cattle populations. KD Eatmon, Charles Grey, Charles Dempsey were past presidents of SGBI that call Florida home. The Larkin family is to have brought the first Santa Gertrudis bull in 1938, and hauled him over in a trailer pulled by a model T. The Edenfield’s Magnum 357 bull is a two time national champion; his offspring keep him proud all around the United States. The Dietrich family has been in the Santa Gertrudis business for a little over 50 years and they are on their fourth generation of Santa Gertrudis breeders.
