The Mid-Coast Affiliate Annual Meeting was held at the Washington County Fairgrounds Sales Facility in Brenham, Texas on Friday, August 12th, 2011. A tailgate party social began the festivities at 4:30 pm with snacks and drinks. The annual meeting and Chicken Fried Steak dinner was held in conjunction with their Cattleman’s Opportunity Sale. The junior members also held a silent auction to raise money.
SGBI Executive Director, John Ford welcomed those present and provided an update about activities and issues within the Santa Gertrudis Association. In addition to displaying a Santa Gertrudis Foundations’ signed and numbered David Sanders print that will begin being offered to raise funds for research and education, he also premiered the newly developed marketing “ad spots” which will begin airing on various stations nation wide.
Mid-Coast Director, Boone Smith announced the many junior activities and recognized their accomplishments which were received through out the past year. He also introduced the affiliate junior officers, along with the Santa Gertrudis Jr. Board Officers. Director Jerome Urbanosky honored retiring board members Clay Yorek, Cheryll Grainger and Tanya Bram with awards for their service to the affiliate.
Dan & Jane Wendt – Wendt Ranch, last years’ Mid-Coast Breeder of the Year received a warm standing ovation after Dan addressed the members with a short history of their ranching operation. Betty McCormick, Mid-Coast Director, later introduced the newly selected breeder of the year while acknowledging the 2011 recipients’ support and dedication in promoting the Mid-Coast affiliate and the Santa Gertrudis breed, as she presented the 2011 Mid-Coast Breeder of the Year Award to Jim Corporron of Corporron Acres. Jim’s son, Rodney Corporron and Ranch Manager, Jessie Mendel accepted the award in his absence during the meeting. (Recently retired Mid-Coast Director Tanya Bram personally presented the award to Jim Corporron prior to the 2011 Mid-Coast Santa Gertrudis Cattleman’s Opportunity Sale the following day.)
New officers elected were: Cheryll Grainger – President; Jerome Urbanosky – Vice President; Debbie Townsend – Secretary; and Christy Moran – Treasurer. Also elected as directors were: Joe Fauth, John Kiker, Neal Schuleman, and Debbie Townsend
