Cattle rancher and auctioneer Fred Dietrich of Orlando, Florida was the recipient of the 2011 Rancher Leadership Award, sponsored by Farm Credit and presented at the Florida Cattlemen's Association Annual Convention June 23, 2011 in Marco Island, Florida.
Dietrich has a life long history of leadership service including: Past President of the Orange County Cattlemen's Association, Director of the Florida Cattlemen's Association, Past President of the Orange County Farm Bureau, Past President of the National Polled Santa Gertrudis Cattle Association, Past President of the Florida Santa Gertrudis Cattle Association, Santa Gertrudis Breeders International Director, Past President of the Florida Auctioneers Association, 1989-90 Florida State Champion Auctioneer, National Auctioneer Association, Director & Agribusiness Council & PAC Chairman, Past Chairman Florida Auctioneer Licensing Board, Past President Florida Agricultural Education Association, National Agricultural Education Association, Outstanding Educator Award 1986 & Life Time Achievement Award 2001, Vice President of the International Fellowship Of Christian Auctioneer Association and Deacon of the Orlando Worship Center for 20 years. Dietrich holds a BS and Masters Degree in Agriculture and was a member of the 1967 University of Florida Livestock Judging Team and has judged many cattle shows around the country. For over 40 years, as an auctioneer and ringman, he has been involved in many auctions.
Dietrich is involved in the family-owned Dietrich's Flying D Ranch, raising Polled Santa Gertrudis Cattle since 1957. The ranch has been active showing champion cattle for over 50 years. The ranch has production-tested cattle for more than 40 years and also made use of ultrasound for beef carcass evaluation and DNA-testing for feed efficiency, tenderness and quality grade and makes use of artificial insemination.
Farm Credit is a member-owned Agricultural lending cooperative serving Florida. It has been serving Florida agriculture since 1916 and makes loans for agriculture and residential purposes, as well as selling crop insurance.
